Reduce downtime thanks to fast response time and high stability

ExTempMini intrinsically safe non-contact infrared temperature sensors measure the temperature of an area of the surface of a solid or liquid, and transmit this as a linear 4-20 mA output.

Temperature ranges from -20°C to 1000°C are available. All models have an adjustable emissivity setting, and may be used to measure a wide variety of target materials, including food, paper, textiles, plastics, leather, tobacco, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, rubber, coal, asphalt and paint.

A choice of optics is available to measure small or large targets at short or long distances. The optional LCT Loop Configuration Tools (USB and RS-485 adapters) and free software allow the ExTempMini to be connected to a PC, PLC or SCADA system for temperature indication, sensor configuration and data acquisition.

These sensors are designed primarily for use in hazardous areas in conjunction with a suitable Intrinsically Safe isolator. All models have been certified Intrinsically Safe for use in gas hazardous areas by Certification Management Ltd. They comply with the European ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU and are covered by certificates for IECEx (international) and UKCA (United Kingdom). The ExTempMini Series is also approved for use in Japan (JNIOSHTR-46-1:2020 (General requirements); JNIOSH-TR-46-6:2015 (Intrinsic Safety “i”)).

Features

  • Suitable for gas hazardous areas, Zone 0, 1 and 2 (sensing head) with a suitable Intrinsically Safe isolator
  • Miniature sensing head for use in high ambient temperatures up to 180°C
  • Temperature range: -20°C to 1000°C
  • Two wire, 4-20 mA output

Typical Applications

The ExTempMini’s ATEX, IECEx, UKCA and JapanEx certification makes it suitable for many applications in hazardous areas involving gas.

Applications include:

Petrochemical - Condition Monitoring

Bearing, gearbox and motor housing surface temperatures in refineries and chemical plants can be monitored without contact, eliminating the need to replace contact probes that are easily damaged by vibration.

Gas Cylinder Filling

The surface temperature of cylinders of flammable gases is monitored with the ExTempMini as they are filled. The Group IIC, T4 (or T3 depending on ambient temperature) classification of the sensing head makes it suitable for almost all gases including propane, butane, hydrogen and acetylene. The temperature of each cylinder is measured on the filling rig to help detect fault conditions in filling, to calculate the final filled volume (in conjunction with the pressure), to ensure the volume is repeatable, and to improve the filling rate.

Automotive Painting

Solvents in automotive painting can lead to the presence of a hazardous gas Zone. The intrinsically safe ExTempMini may be used to measure the temperature of containers and vessels, the surface temperature of liquids, and the temperature of painted surfaces.

Offshore

The stainless steel 316 housing of the ExTempMini's sensing head, and its intrinsically safe certification, make it well-suited for use on offshore platforms.
