OVERVIEW
Take Precise Temperature Readings All the Way Up to 200°C
The FibreMini is an infrared temperature sensor (pyrometer) with a fibre optic sensing head and separate electronics module.
The fibre optic sensing head withstands ambient temperatures of up to 200°C and contains no electronics, so it may be used in areas of strong electromagnetic interference.
Continuous laser sighting illuminates the position and size of the measurement spot while readings are being taken, without affecting the accuracy of the measurement.
A touch screen interface is built into the electronics module, with temperature display, sensor configuration, data logging to optional MicroSD Card, and configurable alarm relay outputs.
The sensor works by detecting the infrared radiation emitted from a surface as a result of its own temperature. The amount of radiation emitted is related to the temperature, and the sensor uses this relationship to provide an accurate temperature output.
FibreMini sensors are ideal for measuring the surface temperature of many reflective metals in high-temperature applications, including iron and steel, as well as non-reflective nonmetals.

- Built-in laser sighting, simultaneous with measurement
Touch Screen
The backlit touch screen interface mounted in the lid of the electronics module provides a large, bright display of the measured temperature, as well as controls allowing full configuration of the sensor. The graph view shows the history of the measured temperature.
In alarm conditions, the display turns bright red to provide an immediate and obvious alarm indication. Alarm modes and levels can be configured via the touch screen.
Data Logging (-CRT and -BRT Models)
The FibreMini can be used as a standalone data logger. All models include a MicroSD card slot for data logging, which can be configured via the touch screen interface. The user can select the sample rate and the number of samples to be taken and schedule the data logging to start at a certain time. With a MicroSD card larger than 2 GB, years of data can be stored, even at the fastest possible sample rate of 1 per second. Data is stored in .csv format and can be viewed and edited easily using spreadsheet software. Alarm events can also be logged to the MicroSD Card. A MicroSD card with SD card adapter is available as an optional accessory. The MicroSD card slot and battery holder are located inside the electronics module. Readings are time and date stamped using the sensor’s internal clock. The clock is reset when the power is disconnected, or it will continue if the optional battery is fitted.

APPLICATION
The FibreMini is ideal for use where the ambient temperature is high, and/or the target has a reflective metal surface. The following suggestions are just a few of the industrial applications where the FibreMini can be used.
Iron & Steel
The harsh high-temperature environments near furnaces in the metals industry require rugged measurement equipment.
The sensing head and fibre optic cable of the FibreMini can be placed in ambient temperatures of up to 200°C, and they are small and flexible enough to be fed through protective conduit with very tight bends.
The touch screen interface can be operated with gloves on, and used as a local display, while still transmitting the temperature back to the control room.
Pipe Welding
Measure the preheat temperature of steel pipes before welding, between the induction coils. For measuring temperatures below 250°C in this application, please see the PyroUSB 2.2.
Aluminium Extrusion
The FibreMini produced good results at the press exit of an aluminium extrusion line, where the surface of the aluminium profile was repeatable and the emissivity was found to be consistent. Special considerations normally apply to aluminium temperature measurement, however it is possible to achieve good results with single-wavelength sensors such as the FibreMini in situations where the emissivity and temperature are both repeatable.
In this application, the PyroCube M was also used for measuring the profile temperature after the water quench.
