Urban Heat Islands: Measuring the Cooling Effect of Green Spaces
Cities run measurably hotter than surrounding areas, and green spaces are increasingly relied on to offset that. To quantify how much cooling urban forests and parks actually provide, a New York-based nonprofit coordinated a 12-city monitoring study using weatherproof data loggers deployed in trees across the country. A single data manager oversaw the entire dataset remotely, while local teams handled wireless syncs in the field.
